Lakes have a TON of settling room (there are “oceans” they are just lake-sized). I’m playing a small game in which I should’ve added another AI or two because it’s nearly turn 250 and there is a ton of good ground to still settle. I think seven seas kind of balances that.

My favorite games are continents and islands, abundant resources, legendary starts, clans and all victories except score. That or max Civs and max city-states, clans on the true start huge earth map with a fairly balanced distribution of civs. I’ll go for pretty much any victory except religion as I find it too unenjoyable.
