For 700-900 hp spend the money on a good converter. You can get a 9.5 that you can't break for $950. Spend $400-500 for the cheaper converter and your rolling the dice on it lasting at that kind of power. I'd think you could easily make the same power with a BBC for $12-15k using a used aluminum block and heads, that should be relatively easy to find.

It's all in the combination. A crappy torque convertor can make the best turbo seem sluggish to spool... but at 20psi I would expect a bit more power especially torque.
