Duramax broken crank.
Lbz Crankshaft concerns. Hey guys, I'm getting ready to purchase a 07 Lbz with just over 100k. The truck was serviced all its life through the dealership but I have been doing research and found the crankshafts seem to break. the only mods the truck seems to have is an intake and a 4 inch lift, the truck still has 100% emissions equipment.

To spin 6+k rpm reliably in those it should e balanced to less than 1 gram. Also told the diesel cranks are way worse than the gasoline motors when it comes to being balanced... Fully built LLY, a couple dozen hooks on it, about 40-50,000mi on it daily driving (plenty of hammering on it), light towing/nothing over 8,000lbs. I just had a broken crank come in on a lmm 2 weeks or so ago. A engineer just happen to be there (for another vehicle at the shop) when I pulled the pan off.
Flip the engine, oil pans off, pop all the rod caps off and push the pistons up in the cylinders, pop the main caps off. Putting it back together is tricky, but still possible. It could be done but the block should be align honed after breaking a crank. This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.

When it goes into reduced engine, the ECM turns off the injector on the cylinder that is knocking, and it goes away. I just got done with an engine for a guy that he broke the crank on- would start and idle fine, had throttle until about 2200rpm and then would start cutting out and running erratic. In a 90-degree drill, carefully drill the 1 3/4” hole. its the operator fault. he is over stressing the engine. when the crank breaks on the 5-6 rod, its always a misuse of the engine. Bought a lbz zf6 170k miles. Runs and drives very well untill you start getting on it. When get on it it will throw a code for p0606 and goes into limp mode. Drove it couple other times the. Finally threw a p0336 code to go start looking at crank sensor issue. I’ve ohmed harness from crank sensor to computer and no open loops. A little back ...
