I think most if not all 3ph's have two possible oil paths to the cylinder. One path is through the flow control valve and the other is through a ball check valve that is part of the flow-control valve assembly. This is one of the advantages of JD over other makes that have a different design or only on one side. Those devices allow the ends of the lower two of the 3 point hitch to float indepently. When raising in position control, once the control handle gets to a certain point on the quadrant, the lift arms will not stop raising and continue all the way to the fully raised position. This happens when the handle reaches about 2/3 of the way up.Simple test: raise the 3-PT with a load attached like a plow or blade or mower -anything will work. Leave load fully raised in 'UP' position then shut down tractor and leave it up. Observe if the load drops and how fast it takes. A fully functional hydraulic system will keep a load in the raised position for months.
