I don't think you can go wrong with either rifle. My choice would depend on my budget. I would choose the Tikka if I had the cash reserved to top it with decent glass. But, if it would only leave me with Barska quality optics to mount on the Tikka I would choose the American and put better glass on it. JMHO.

Update 01/27/2021: We have revised and strengthened the barrel nut as well as added the option for SS to the lineup. The new nut has a "hood" on it that covers the tenon threads left on the barrel and streamlines the fit on the receiver. The outside of the barrel nut still fits in the Tikka T3x chassis handguard mount as well.mountains of central PA. I like rugers but this isnt much af a comparison. The 2 are on different levels. The tikka is a much nicer, smoother and more accurate rifle out of the box. The trigger on the tikka is one of the nicest factory triggers out there too.
