I sort of remember a long time ago there was an auto swap or gear swap addon that allowed you to quickly make the change without having to go through your bags trying to figure out which items to put on your character. colourblind mode will drop it back to characters instead of icons as well (unless the addon ignores that) this definelly worked for me i turned off colorblind and now is back to normal.
