Jeep yj fuel return line.
The top one goes to the return line. The return line connects to the extra nipple in the sending unit on the top of the gas tank. The lower outflow line on the filler goes to the carb. It is not uncommon to hear of guys removing the return line during a mod but in the end the line always needs to be restored in order for the engine to run properly.

Under the Jeep trying to wrap up fuel lines for my 87 4.2L to 4.0HO engine swap. which is the fuel supply line and which is return line in the pic. Is it the one closer to the radiator (smaller diameter) or the other one (larger diameter)?My thought is the feed will go to the fuel pump then to the larger output line from the fuel pump. Anyone have a picture of the fuel pump lines. Follow the line to the fuel filter. It's a 1990 Wrangler but the block numbers on the 258 say it's from the late 70s. Looks like its been swapped at some point with some nice headers, intake manifold, and carb. The problem though is the fuel lines.
I just got my '89 YJ if the mechanical fuel pump compensates for too much pressure downstream. But the 5/16 will supply enough to run a 350 tbi. A 89 yj with a 4.0 aw4 sye out of an 92xj. Now the hard part is done time to get it up in the air just a bit. If that return line isn't there, the fuel has no where to go. This could possibly rupture the diaphragm in the fuel pump...depending on the quality of the pump. The reason the manufacturer went to an electric pump was because of fuel injection.
