With that combo, they can outdamage even a Fighter (on average, assuming persistent lasts 4 rounds) on the first round of combat.The alchemist items are OK, and the versatility can come in handy, but the incredibly poor alchemist proficiency scaling just makes them have to work really hard for a moderate return at best. System mastery makes them less total garbage, but equivalent system mastery on any spellcaster still leaves the alchemist behind.
