It doesn't count to your overall level. The xp levels the scav separately. Next time when your on your scav go in to your menu and then click on skills. You will be able to see what level your scav has gotten to with all your raids. Scav XP does not go to ur PMC lvl. Also you can't complete quests as a scav.

Scavs act well like Ai. They stand in still in the open, walk very scripted paths. Only spawn in certain locations. They have a distinct look than pmcs (you can view the different clothing options for pmcs in ragman's store) They usually yell at you when you're nearby whereas most players don't.
