Used it for the first time this year tonight and noticed that the blades lose all their momentum once I get into some deep grass. I don't recall it ever doing this. The motor doesn't slow down at all. Just the blades.

Sounds like a safey switch problem so the easiest way to test is to bypass everything and power it direct from the battery with some custom jumper leads. make sure you put a fuse in them.
