you start with fake melee builds because of their mayhemscaling and easy access and then grind the components for a gun build. anything works at fucking +250% weapon damage anointment xD. I'm using Jakobs crit damage, good single target dmage and ricochet + indiscriminate for mobbing. Some people use splash damage builds.
