This model adapter with the set screw allows the adapter to be slid over a stub of smooth 1/2" copper pipe and located approximately 1/4" from the finished wall surface and tighten in place with the set screw.
No set screw on the brass adapter. Seems like delta has a few styles of them that all look similar. I’ve tried unscrewing it but it seems pretty set on there and I get the feeling I might damage something if I try harder. Unfortunately that plastic piece has a 1 inch nipple, so it won’t fit into the new spout, which has a 1/2 female connection.Since a delta shower set was already installed I stuck with delta to avoid any major remodeling. Was able to swap out the shower head and handle easy. When I got to the tub spout I discovered that there is a proprietary fitting put onto the end of the pipe.
