It seems that both the 1301 and M4 are designed with the defensive/tactical shooter primarily in mind. Both companies offer models for hunters and clay shooters that are better suited to those tasks. The main difference between the M4 and 1301 seems to be inertia vs. gas within the realm of 3-gun competition and defense. Just my 2 cents.

The 1301 is light as all get out but recoil is light. Like there is no way a shotgun that light should recoil this light. It was pretty reliable as well.
